The plug wires on the Raider started to pull apart when I had to remove them to remove the valve cover, so I ordered a new “premium” Beck Arnley set from RockAuto. Cheap because wholesaler closeout, so I was expecting old, but this box was still an entertaining surprise.
Behold, my lazy but functional wire routing.

That hot air intake is certainly unique.

How’s it runnin?

It’s even a factory part, too. I think I’ll be making something to plug the hole in the intake and delete that situation.

Oh, that looks 100% factory. Like they had issues with cold starts or something.

As well as it can until I do the whole Weber swap ordeal. The lifters made a big difference, and the new plug wires even made a little difference, despite the old ones still having good conductivity. It definitely doesn’t love the hot weather.

It’s called the “Intake preheater hose” or something, so between that, and how angry it is about starting cold, I think you’re right.

Honestly I’d try disconnecting the hose we’re talking about and see if that makes it run better.

Maybe they had carb icing issues, too?

Yeah, neither of my cars like the heat. The ST used to overheat all the time until I swapped the rad, but it still gets super hot and has a bad case of heat soak.

Also very possible. I haven’t driven it in the winter, not that it gets that cold here, but they would’ve had to ready it for much colder winters when they north americanized it.

It’s been suggested that I get my rad rodded out, since no one makes the OE-style all metal ones anymore. It’s actually running at a good temp now, just getting all sluggish and feeling like it wants to stall unless I downshift, once it’s been driving for a while if it’s good and hot out.
